Kingspan Flat Roof Insulation Between Joists

Kingspan Kooltherm K110 Soffit Insulation Board is a fibre-free rigid thermoset phenolic insulation board featuring foil facings for thermal efficiency that meets or surpasses building regulations’ target U-value.

This product is ideal for warm flat roof structures, and can be installed over built-up felt, mastic asphalt or single-ply membranes approved by AHERA. Additionally, this material makes an excellent addition to refurbishments or loft conversion projects.

Xtratherm Close-R

Xtratherm Rafterloc is designed to fit snugly between timbers of a pitched roof joist. A slotted mechanism allows it to lock between joists, eliminating the need for separate joist-insulation strips and also enabling closer spacing of rafters compared to prior arrangements – this reduces required airspace between insulation and sarking felt whilst maintaining a 50mm ventilation gap.

Insulation for this project was made from high-performance PIR foam with composite foil facings for extra moisture resistance and protection from mould, fungus and bacteria attacks. For optimal installation performance, both elements were embedded within a vapour control layer of mastic for effective installation.

Xtratherm Plydeck combines decking, insulation and vapour control layer into an easy-to-install flat roof product for new builds or refurbishment projects. Ideal for use in Warm Roof constructions.

Xtratherm Thin-R is an exceptionally high performance foil faced PIR insulation board with an exceptional certified thermal conductivity of less than 0.022 W/mK and featuring gas-tight low emissivity aluminium layers on either side for a superior barrier between walls and floors, pitched roof insulation between rafters, etc. Suitable for environmental friendly use without CFC/HCFC refrigerants – suitable for wall, floor and pitched roof applications!

Kingspan Flat Roof Insulation

Vapour control layers must always be included when building a flat roof to avoid condensation forming in its void and reduce risk of moisture damage to both structure and possible rot and mould growth.

Celotex PL4000 or TB4000 rigid PIR insulation boards are an increasingly popular choice, as they can be cut precisely to size for use between joists. Once installed, their underside can then be covered with sheet plasterboard for an aesthetically pleasing result.

One solution would be to use ISOVER’s more flexible glass mineral wool (GMW) rolls or batts, which can be cut slightly wider than your joist spacing and then fitted into place between them. Remember to cover up their underside with sheet plasterboard afterwards!

Kingspan Thermaroof TR27 offers an innovative flat roof insulation solution. This insulation is specifically tailored for use with single-ply non-bituminous membrane or mastic asphalt roof systems and is compatible with green roof systems. Featuring a fibre free rigid thermoset PIR core wrapped with low emissivity composite foil on both sides and manufactured using blowing agents with reduced ODP and GWP emissions, Kingspan Thermaroof insulation boasts FM Approval to FM 4470 certification as well as FM Approval to FM 4470 certification.

Kingspan SuperQuilt

Kingspan SuperQuilt insulation blanket is an ideal choice for flat roof insulation between joists. British-made and LABC approved, its multi-foil design delivers excellent thermal performance that surpasses building regulations’ target u-values while remaining easy to install and shortening installation time.

SuperQuilt insulation is constructed of reflective foil and breather membrane, stitched together using an innovative stitching method designed to minimize cold bridging found in other multi-foil products. Once attached to joists, fabric seals with YBS foil joining tape ensure an airtight seal and guarantee an airtight environment.

Installation can occur above or under a roof deck or floor depending on the type of waterproofing material being utilized, with plasterboard covering being utilized to reduce solar overheating and artificial heating needs. Furthermore, rooflights or vents/wall/rooflights may be added and sealed around these options for additional solar control purposes.

The YBS Super-Quilt should be installed according to its manufacturers certificate, installation instructions and good practice. Battens should be secured through the Super-Quilt perpendicular to joists before plasterboard can be fitted. Plasterboard should then be applied. A flashing/collar should be attached around vent/wall/rooflight openings before being sealed using YBS Foil Tape to avoid moisture ingress. YBS Foil Joining Tape should also be applied along all cut edges to prevent moisture entry.
