Kingspan Kooltherm FM Pipe Insulation and Insulated Pipe Support Inserts for Concealed Services

Kingspan Kooltherm pipe insulation and Insulated Pipe Support Inserts were installed at this prestigious new facility for concealed services. This offsite system, pre-engineered to specific dimensions with factory applied aluminium foil vapour barrier jacketing was delivered pre-cut.

It is free from HCFC/CFC refrigerants with zero ODP emissions and low GWP impacts and comes backed by an LABC Warranty. Furthermore, its thermal conductivity allows specified performance standards to be reached more efficiently through thinner insulation materials.

Excellent Fire Resistance

Kooltherm FM insulation product is widely used to insulate pipework for building services and HVAC applications, offering significant energy savings. As it contains no CFC/HCFC compounds or blowing agents with ODP emissions or global warming potential (GWP) concerns, it meets relevant regulations and codes.

Kooltherm has lower thermal conductivity compared to traditional mineral wool insulation, enabling thinner insulation thicknesses while still meeting performance specifications – an advantage especially important in exposed to view applications or when space is at a premium.

phenolic foam insulation delivers exceptional thermal and fire performance. This proprietary technology features closed cells that are densely cross-linked, making ignition difficult. As a result, cells limit heat generation while retarding flame spread across surfaces. With 95% closed cell structure or more for moisture penetration resistance a key factor in thermal conductivity regulation; factory applied aluminium foil vapour barrier jacket autohesively bonds during manufacture for added peace of mind.

Low Thermal Conductivity

Kooltherm technical pipe insulation is manufactured with a non-fibrous premium performance rigid thermoset modified phenolic core and factory applied aluminium foil vapour barrier jacket that adheres autohesively. Free from CFC’s, HCFC’s and HFC’s as well as having low Global Warming Potential and Ozone Depletion Potential values.

Studley Castle project required attaining optimal energy performance to protect itself against rising energy costs in the future. Kingspan Kooltherm insulation with an aged thermal conductivity rating of 0.25 W/mK provided effective insulation throughout, even those transporting natural thermal water.

Insulated pipe support inserts were also installed, helping to minimize thermal bridges between pipes and support systems, which can significantly decrease system efficiency. Furthermore, Kooltherm insulation from KIWA contributed towards attaining a BREEAM Excellent rating.

Low VOC Content

Kingspan Kooltherm pipe insulation is made using an eco-friendly CFC/HCFC-free blowing agent, with no depletion to the ozone layer and low VOC emissions, making it safe to be used indoors or in enclosed spaces. Class 0 product as defined by building regulations with an A+ rating from BRE Green Guide completes its composition.

Insulation not only provides thermal efficiency, but it also prevents condensation and moisture damage, helping maintain dew point levels and limiting thermal bridging between pipes, as well as serving as an effective vapour barrier.

Acoustic pipe lagging also prevents noise transfer from pipes into living areas, keeping living areas quiet. It comes in pre-cut ‘flat packs’ for easy installation.

Kingspan Kooltherm insulated pipe support inserts were chosen by the project team to limit heat loss through supports. Constructed of Kooltherm high density rigid phenolic insulation, these supports were ideal for mild steel, stainless steel, copper multiplex and plastic pipework systems.

Closed Cell Structure

Kooltherm pipe insulation features a closed cell structure to maximise resistance to heat transfer, filled with an environmentally-friendly CFC/HCFC-free blowing agent with zero Ozone Depletion Potential and low Global Warming Potential (GWP) values, eliminating air infiltration problems that reduce thermal performance.

Moisture-resistant applications and pipes require products with insulation performance between -50degC and +120degC to keep moisture at bay and to limit condensation, mould growth and pipe sweating – thus helping lower energy costs by decreasing energy requirements to heat water up quickly or cool equipment down efficiently. This product maintains an insulation performance range between these temperatures that helps lower energy consumption costs by decreasing heating/cooling requirements for hot water/equipment needs and cooling/heating requirements for cooling equipment/piping needs.

This innovative offsite approach enabled Kingspan Kooltherm FM insulation and Insulated Pipe Support Inserts to be manufactured simultaneously – cutting installation times and delivery requirements by up to 190 HGV journeys and helping achieve BREEAM credit for the project. Furthermore, its fire and smoke performance helped achieve one too, with its dense crosslinked structure making it difficult for ignition while its outer carbonaceous layer acting to limit heat generation and restrict flame spread during fire exposure.
