Insulating a flat roof is crucial to increasing energy efficiency. There are various methods available for doing this including cold roof insulation, warm roof deck insulation, and inverted flat roof insulation.
Tradefix Direct offer an array of flat roof insulation fixings designed to fit every type of construction. Their “thermally broken” fixes can reduce cold bridging when used alongside steel pressure plates.
Insofast ISF-18 Hammer Driven Fixings
Staifix Insofast ISF18A is an one-piece metal fastener featuring a dish profiled head, designed for mechanically attaching insulated plasterboard panels to walls. This fireproof metal fixing features a twin start spiral shank welded to a button head that indents into flat roof insulation to secure it in place. To drive in, an Insofast ISF-18 adaptor must first be used; power for driving-in is then supplied via light SDS hammer drill (1-2kg with 2-3 joules). These screws drive directly into aircrete blocks and softwood timber without pre-drilling, but for brick, concrete block, and hardwood it is important to use a 5mm pilot hole to avoid cold bridging through the shaft and increase embedment depth. Furthermore, class A1 noncombustible fixings have been designed so as not to interfere with firefighters attempting to rescue people escaping a burning building or prevent plasterboard falling on people escaping or firefighters trying to rescue them from falling debris.
Insofast ISF-18 Screws
Staifix ISF-18A Insulated Plasterboard Anchors are class A1 fireproof mechanical fixings designed to secure insulated plasterboard sheets to brick and block walls. These non-combustible one-piece fixtures are non-combustible, making it suitable for both adhesive bonded (dot and dab) as well as mechanically fixed (MF) systems of attachment, while mitigating cold bridging through its thermally efficient spiral shaft which has only 25% of the cross sectional area as that of an equivalent solid shaft of equal diameter.
This fixing features a fully countersunk head that indents into gyproc without tearing. It can be used either with the “dot and dab” adhesive system (3 anchors per board), or without it (12 anchors per board), depending on requirements.
Dependent upon your project, installing insulation may require using one of several methods – dot and dab, multi-functional (MF), or DIY adhesive systems – but regardless of which option you select, always follow manufacturer’s instructions when applying or using insulation products.
