Types of Phenolic Pipe Lagging

There are many types of phenolic pipe lagging. Some of the most commonly used ones include BS5422, Supaphen, DyTherm, Kooltherm, and Polyethylene. Learn about the benefits of each before purchasing a particular brand. Here’s a look at some of the differences between these pipe lagging products. Despite their similarities, they’re all made of a different material.

BS5422

BS 5422 phenolic pipe lagging has been designed to meet minimum BS standards for reducing energy consumption and overheating. This specification specifies that pipe insulation must be designed with pipe support inserts and extraction fans for heat dissipation. This standard was developed by Kingspan Technical Insulation (KTI) in conjunction with AECOM to measure the effect on carbon emissions, energy costs and site deliveries.

Kooltherm pipe insulation is pre-formed CFC-free phenolic. It is available in a full range of standard insulation thicknesses and is approved for off-shore applications. It is available in both standard and heavy-duty densities for a wide range of applications. It can be used on mild, stainless, copper, and plastic pipe and is available in full standard diameters and Insulation thicknesses.

The thermal conductivity of pipe insulation plays an important role in the minimum heat transfer. Premium phenolic pipe insulants have thermal conductivities as low as 0.025 W/mK at 25 years. Premium phenolic pipe insulants are made with phenolic insulation pipe supports to minimize heat losses. Phenolic pipe insulation is suitable for any application and must be installed to BS 5422:2009.

As a result of the changes, the UK Government has introduced a tax incentive for new build and renovation projects that meet the new standards. This standard also focuses on the true cost-effectiveness of efficient insulation materials. Before the changes, phenolic foam gained 15 per cent of the pipe insulation market in the UK. Its fire and thermal resistance is excellent, making it one of the most effective options. The new standard is based on the new ‘environmentally-friendly’ thickness methodology, allowing for a significant reduction in CO2 emissions.

Supaphen

The UL listed material Supaphen phenolic pipe laging offers several benefits over other types of pipe lagging. This high-performance material is CFC free, zero ozone-depletion potential, and fire-safe. It is produced as a rigid block with a density of 40kg/m3, and MW Insulation fabricates it into sheet form. This phenolic pipe lagging is easy to install and offers excellent thermal performance.

The MW Insulation Limited company is based in Trafford Park, Manchester, which is close to the motorway network. The company was founded by long-time industry professionals and is family-run. The company offers thermal insulation products to UK distributors. Its focus is Quality of Product and Service. The company offers 2 main fabricated rigid foam products: pipe section and support, and cut sheets. Its manufacturing facility has ISO9001 and ISO14001 environmental management certifications.

BS 5422 phenolic pipe lagging is an efficient insulating material. It can be specified for interior and exterior pipework and comes in three different densities. The material is available for pipe diameters of 15mm to 273mm. It has excellent chemical resistance and is approved for off-shore environments. It also contributes to the overall room’s warmth. In addition to being fire-safe, Supaphen phenolic pipe lagging is also environmentally-friendly.

DyTherm

In addition to offering exceptional fire performance, phenolic pipe lagging is also a good choice for a wide range of pipe applications, including piping used in industrial settings. Its closed cell content provides excellent resistance to moisture penetration, and its high density makes it an excellent choice for moderately heated and cryogenic applications. In addition to being a superior insulation material, it is 100% free of CFCs and HCFCs.

Kooltherm

Kooltherm phenolic pipe lining from Kingspan is a premium performance, high-performance insulating material that can be used for 76mm diameter pipes of up to 1 metre in length. Kooltherm pipe lining is the thinnest, most effective insulating material available on the market, and is suitable for HVAC and building services applications. Its superior properties ensure that the pipes remain as dry as possible, and minimise the risk of condensation.

Kooltherm phenolic pipe lining is manufactured using patented technology. It has superior resistance to burning, the lowest thermal conductivity, and zero Ozone Depletion Potential. Its reputation for quality is unmatched by any other pipe lagging material, making it an excellent choice for many projects. Kingspan Kooltherm is manufactured by Kingspan Tarec and is widely considered the number one brand in the UK market.

This insulating material has closed cell properties, meaning that the solid-to-void ratio is very low. The closed-cell structure minimizes air infiltration. The material has an aging thermal conductivity of 0.025 W/m*K, making it the most thermally efficient insulating material available. Kooltherm phenolic pipe lagging is certified as UL/CSA approved.

Kingspan Kooltherm phenolic pipe lining is a premium performance insulating material for wall, floor, and structural ceiling systems. Its fiber-free rigid thermoset phenolic core ensures excellent fire performance. Despite its superior fire performance properties, Kooltherm pipe lagging can be used for any type of pipework, including HVAC and building services. The insulating material is available in various thicknesses, enabling it to fit into tighter spaces.

In addition to being highly effective against condensation and corrosion, Kooltherm pipe lagging also features a high performance foil face vapour barrier. Moreover, the phenolic material is CFC-free, and its manufacturing adheres to the strictest standards of BS EN ISO 14001: 2004 scheme. These features make Kooltherm pipe lagging an ideal choice for industrial and commercial applications.
