Types of Phenolic Pipe Lagging

Kingspan Kooltherm

Kingspan Kooltherm phenolic insulation is a type of pipe lagging that can be used on a variety of types of pipework. This flexible material is made using a phenolic resin and a foaming agent and is incredibly versatile. It is also lightweight and easy to install. Its fibre-free rigid thermoset phenolic core means it is extremely resistant to fire.

Kingspan Kooltherm pipe insulation is an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional pipe lagging. Its low thermal conductivity makes it one of the most energy efficient options on the market. This is due to the fact that the phenolic foam does not allow heat to pass through, which helps to save energy and money. It also keeps hot water hot and prevents cold water pipes from freezing.

Kingspan Kooltherm pipe insulation is available in a variety of thicknesses. Its versatile thickness means it can be used on a wide range of pipework. It is available in lengths of up to 1m. You can use it for any type of pipework and enjoy optimum performance and value for money.

Kooltherm Pipe Insulation is the thinnest and most efficient pipe insulation available. It offers superior fire performance and is suitable for use on mild steel, stainless steel, copper, multiplex, and carbon steel pipework. It is also suitable for horizontal pipework that carries liquids. It is also extremely resilient to extreme temperatures. In addition to its excellent performance, Kooltherm is suitable for outdoor installations, and is also suitable for a variety of different applications.

Supaphen

Supaphen is a high performance phenolic thermal pipe lagging material that conforms to the European Standard EN14314. Supaphen is suitable for hot and chilled pipe work, and is fire and smoke safe. It is also a highly efficient thermal insulator, with a maximum aged K value of 0.024 W/m.k.

Supaphen is an aluminium-foil faced, pre-formed phenolic pipe insulation material. Its thin 0.5mm cladding prevents the pipe from absorbing heat and is suitable for piping applications such as air conditioning and heating. Supaphen is suitable for lap sealing and is manufactured to the highest standards. It has a high-tack pressure-sensitive acrylic adhesive and a removable release paper.

Glasswool

Glasswool phenolic pipe laging is a great alternative to mineral fibre pipe lagging. It offers greater thermal resistance than mineral fibre, and can be installed in a smaller thickness. However, it cannot replace mineral fibre for all applications. Its thermal resistance range is -180oC to +120oC.

Glasswool phenolic pipe laging can be used on any pipe type. It is lightweight, easy to install, and comes with an excellent fire rating. It is ideal for heat-sensitive applications because it does not let heat escape and does not produce flaming droplets. Its closed-cell structure prevents moisture ingress while foil-facings serve as additional protection.

The main difference between phenolic pipe lagging and glasswool pipe lagging is the material used for the phenolic pipe insulation. The former is a grey hard-porous fuel, while the latter is made from recycled stone wool waste. Glasswool phenolic pipe laging is a better option for heating pipes in low-temperature environments.

Rockwool

Rockwool phenolic pipe laging is a highly effective insulation material. It has a natural inertness that does not support mould or bacteria and provides a thermal and acoustic barrier. Additionally, it is durable and maintains its thickness over time. Its factory-applied aluminium foil also acts as a vapour barrier. It is compatible with all types of pipes and can be used in heating and cooling applications.

It is a versatile material that is available in a wide variety of compositions. Its insulating properties range from -65 degC to +650°C. It is available in sheets, batts, and sections, and is applied using factory-applied foil.

The material is used in pipework for the LTHW to CHW temperature range. It has a lower thermal conductivity than mineral wool, which limits heat loss and gain. This pipe insulation block is also fire-rated to BL-S1 and d0 European standards. However, its fire safety rating is comparatively less favorable than that of mineral wool pipe insulation.

Rockwool is made from melted stone. A disk or wheel is used to hurl the heated mass out. Its density is around 4.4 pounds per cubic foot. It has a thermal conductivity of 0.25 BTU-in./h.ft.2 and a density of 70 kg/m3.

Mineral fibre

Mineral fibre phenolic pipe lagging is a common choice for insulating pipes. This insulation has exceptional fire resistance, as well as being able to be used in relatively low thicknesses. It is a cost-effective material, and has a wide range of temperatures: -180oC to +120oC. It is also 100% CFC-free, making it an excellent choice for industrial applications.

The lagging is available in a variety of forms, including blankets and loose fill. Both types of insulation are water-repellent and have vapor-permeable properties. Mineral fibre phenolic pipe lagging can be applied in a single layer or in several layers for maximum protection. A watertight steel sheet is often used over the insulation to prevent it from bursting.

Typical applications for phenolic pipe insulation include LTHW to CHW pipework. The material has a lower thermal conductivity than other insulations, limiting both heat loss and heat gain. It is also fire-resistant and has a BL-S1 fire classification according to the European standard. However, it performs less well than mineral wool pipe insulation.

Kingspan Kooltherm pipe insulation is excellent for a range of pipework applications. Its low thermal conductivity of 0.025 W/m*K makes it one of the most energy-efficient pipe lagging options. Its low thermal conductivity prevents heat from passing through, allowing hot water pipes to remain hot and cold water pipes to remain cold.
